Faith Adventure Is Postponed

Our Faith Adventure teams visit the Glory Glory Center in Haiti several times per year.

It was a tough call, but when Pastor Samuel asked us to reschedule the Faith Adventure departing tomorrow, we had to agree. We always defer to him when it comes to the safety of our teams.

Due to the current civil unrest in Haiti, it’s impossible to travel within the country at the moment. Roads are blocked from north to south with burning tires, rock barricades, and even jack-knifed semis, as the population demands the resignation of President Jovenel Moise while protesting inflation, unemployment, corruption and the government’s inability to respond to their basic needs.

But what amazed us, when we informed the team about Sam’s request, was their determination to not let this faze them. Dave, who was a part of the team and who helped deliver the bad news, told me, “They were incredible! The whole team agreed, if this isn’t God’s timing, then we’ll pray He lets us know when He wills us to go…and we’ll be ready”.

So, for now, the Mariners Christian School’s Teacher Trip to Haiti has been postponed. Here is the response the teachers drafted to share the news with the MCS community…

The 2019 Haiti Faith Adventure team is incredibly thankful for all of your support and prayers and for your investment in our mission trip. It’s been exciting to have our school families and our students partner with us in prayer and preparation. However, it is with a heavy heart that we have to temporarily postpone the trip. Unfortunately, due to some political unrest currently unfolding across Haiti, road travel to our destination is not possible at this time. Our church partner on the ground in Haiti, Pastor Sam Metelus, advised us to postpone the trip for the time being. To be clear, the trip is not canceled, but it is postponed until a new date is set. Our team met today to pray for and discuss the current status, and we are dedicated to continuing our partnership with the Glory Glory Center in Haiti. Although we are saddened about this news, we wholeheartedly believe that God’s timing is perfect, so we look forward with anticipation to eventually making this trip to Haiti.

All of the support that has been provided and items donated will be held until the trip is rescheduled.

We ask that you please join us in praying for the people of Haiti, and for us as we are open and receiving God’s guidance in allowing us to go in the future.

These are the teachers who comprised this incredible team: Ms. Jennifer Kish, Mrs. Tami Thurston, Ms. Mirranda Parks, Mrs. Karri Meyer, Mrs. Lynda Lynch, Mr. Chris Spurgin, Ms. Kim DeAllen, and Head of School Mr. Troy Moore.

We’re unbelievably grateful for the partnership that is growing between our Haiti Ministry and Mariners Christian School and can’t wait to see what this amazing team will do when they finally have the opportunity to spend a week with our Haitian brothers and sisters and Pastor Sam in Torbeck.
